Dangote Cement Plc has been honoured in Abuja with the ‘Product of the Year’ award by the Leadership Newspaper.

The honour was conferred on the Cement Company Thursday at an elaborate event which saw President Muhammadu Buhari, former President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and former INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, also honoured.

The award organizers said the Dangote Cement was chosen as the ‘Product of the Year’ for creating a brand that promotes the trust of all stakeholders and helping to create thousands of jobs across Nigeria.

“Dangote is an epitome of trust among all the stakeholders, engineers, builders, contractors, individual house owners, governments, investors, shareholders and the society at large,” the award citation read

Speaking at the occasion, President Muhammadu Buhari said the award should ginger the industrialists to support the effort towards the development of the country’s economy.

The President also urged the media to join hands with the government to move the nation forward.

Chairman of the occasion, former Head of State Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar said the theme: “Democracy, Political Transition and the Challenges of Leadership in Africa” for the 2015 awards was apt in the face of the economic and political situation in Africa.

He called on Nigerians, awardees and the media to support the current government in its strides against insecurity and economic downturn.

In his keynote address, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State Udom Emmanuel said awardees hold the keys to unlock the country’s dwindling fortunes.

In the citation read for former President Jonathan, the organizers noted that under his watch as President, “Nigeria experienced unprecedented economic growth and became the largest economy in Africa. As President, he promoted democratic values and principles, peace and national security.”

Spokesman for the Dangote Group in Abuja, Mr. Jibrin Abubarkar, said the award will further spur Dangote Cement to contribute more to the development of the economy through its numerous investments, empowerment programmes and philanthropic activities.
