The equities market declined marginally by 0.03% at the close of trades today, to settle at 25,266.15 pts. However, the volume of transactions and market turnover advanced by 84.38% and 137.27% respectively. The market breadth closed at equilibrium, as there nineteen (19) gainers and losers apiece.
CAP and NASCON emerged as the best performing stocks today, advancing by 10.23% each, to close at NGN32.64 and NGN8.62 accordingly. Other top gainers include LIVESTOCK (+10.00%), LEARNAFRICA (+8.45%) and CADBURY (+8.00%). On the contrary, FO recorded the highest decline (-5.86%), closing at NGN45.00. HONYFLOUR, MANSARD, NEIMETH and AFRIPRUD also declined by 4.76%, 3.61%, 3.45% and 3.32% respectively.
Sector performance, as measured by the NSE Indices, showed that the NSEIND and NSEFBT10 indices advanced by 0.59% and 0.10% respectively. However, NSEBNK10, NSEINS10 and NSEOILG5 indices declined by 0.61%, 0.30% and 0.08% in that respective order.
Although there were equal number of gainers and losers, the losses outweighed the gains, hence the marginal loss recorded. Analysts attribute the day’s performance to continuous profit-taking activities on counters that recorded gains in the prior trading days.
